When buying a steam press, consider plate size alongside garment types, placement, and operation. A larger plate can cover a different area of fabric, but also needs more space and an appropriate setup. The Swiss Plus SP-6100 and SP-7200 have different plate sizes. This guide reviews how to choose between them.

Measure the space needed to open the press

As specified by the manual, position the appliance on a flat, stable surface with enough access to arrange and remove fabric. Do not consider only its dimensions when closed. Opening height, working clearance, and the cord route also matter.

List your usual garments. Flat areas, seams, buttons, and decorative details each need a different placement approach. Plate size alone does not mean every part of a garment can be pressed in the same way.

Comparing two Swiss Plus plate sizes

The SP-6100 is listed with a 22-inch plate and the SP-7200 with a 26-inch plate. Both have digital touch controls, temperature adjustment, and a transport lock. The SP-6100 description also mentions a Teflon soleplate. Check the other model's plate material separately rather than assuming it is the same.

Start temperature selection with the fabric care label

Read the garment's care label and match its permitted method and temperature to the appliance manual. For delicate fabrics or details, follow the recommended protection or testing procedure. Do not guess pressure or contact time, or raise the temperature arbitrarily to work faster.

Before lowering the plate, check your hand positions and any loose fabric. Smooth the garment as instructed to avoid pressing in unwanted creases. Press buttons, zips, or raised areas only using a method approved for them.

Packing away and storing after ironing

After use, switch off and unplug. Allow the appliance to cool completely before locking or moving it. Store the cord without tension or contact with hot parts. To compare with handheld appliances, see the steam iron buying guide. The video below introduces the SP-6100's operation. Also read the warnings in the exact model's manual.

Frequently asked questions

The current specifications list a 22-inch plate for the SP-6100 and a 26-inch plate for the SP-7200. Check the overall appliance dimensions separately.

No. Overall dimensions, opening clearance, hand access, and a stable supporting surface also matter. Do not treat the plate's inch measurement as the full appliance width.

After switching off and allowing the appliance to cool completely, use the transport lock according to the model's instructions. The lock does not permit moving a hot appliance or storing the cord incorrectly.
