Using a sandwich maker begins with choosing the correct plates and preheating. The amount of filling and bread thickness affect how the lid closes and how food cooks. The Swiss Plus SSM-270 has removable sandwich and grill plates. Here we review its preparation and cleaning routine.

Sandwich plates or grill plates?

Choose plates for foods permitted by the manual. Before connecting the power, check that both plates are seated and locked correctly. Change plates only when cold, and position the appliance on a flat, heat-resistant surface. Keep the cord away from hot parts.

The SSM-270 specifications list a temperature of 200°C, an indicator light, and a thermostat. These details do not mean all ingredients have the same cooking time. Consider bread type, filling moisture, and food thickness when choosing a suitable recipe.

Preheating and preparing your sandwich

This model is listed with a four-minute preheating time. Follow the indicator and setup instructions. While it heats, distribute the filling evenly and avoid overfilling the edges of the bread to prevent leakage.

Do not force the lid closed

If the lid does not close easily, reduce the thickness or amount of filling. Do not use your weight or another object to press it down. Be aware of steam and hot surfaces when opening, and remove food with utensils suitable for the plate coating.

A sandwich maker does not replace proper ingredient preparation. Prepare ingredients according to a reliable recipe. When cooking raw ingredients, do not rely only on bread colour or the indicator light. Record successful cooking times for the same quantity and thickness.

Cleaning the removable plates

After use, switch off, unplug, and allow the appliance to cool. Remove the plates as directed and wash them using a permitted method. Do not immerse the main housing or electrical parts in water. Check that the plates and their connection points are completely dry before refitting.

For storage, follow the instructions for the cord and appliance lock. The SSM-270 supports upright storage; choose a stable location that does not put pressure on the cord. See the full specifications on the SSM-270 sandwich maker page.

Check specifications and included accessories on the model's page. For operation and limitations, read the manual for that product.
