When you want dinner to be ready at a particular time, separate three decisions: how the food should cook, when cooking should start and whether the finished food needs to stay warm before serving. All three help with timing, but they do different jobs. This guide uses the SRC-5500 control panel to show which setting to look for at each stage.
The cooking programme determines how the food cooks
The Swiss Plus SRC-5500 multi-purpose rice cooker listing lists touch controls, cooking programmes, delay start and keep warm as distinct features. The panel shows programmes such as rice, soup and steam. Choose the appropriate programme for your recipe before setting hours or minutes. Start a familiar programme directly the first time so you can see what the display does during and after cooking.

Delay start schedules when cooking begins
Where the appliance instructions and ingredients allow it, the preset function can schedule a later start. Before activating it, use the instructions to check what the time represents. Depending on the display state, you may be looking at a waiting period or the cooking programme time. Hours and minutes on the display alone do not mean delay start is active.
Do not leave perishables such as raw meat, poultry or dairy waiting in the unheated cooker. Store the ingredients safely until you are ready to begin, then start cooking directly. For the exact setting procedure, check the Swiss Plus product manuals or ask Swiss Plus support using model code SRC-5500.
Keep warm is for after cooking is complete
Use keep warm to hold fully cooked food for serving only under the conditions permitted by the appliance and safe for that food. The duration available on the appliance is not a universal safe holding time. Do not use this mode to cook raw ingredients or reheat cold leftovers. If serving is postponed, choose a safe storage method suited to the dish.
Choose the mode that matches the task
Situation | Mode to consider | Check before confirming |
|---|---|---|
Ingredients are ready and you want to cook now | Cooking programme and direct start | Programme type and permitted quantity |
Cooking needs to begin later | Delay start, where permitted | Programme, ingredient suitability and meaning of the displayed time |
Cooking is complete and serving is soon | Keep warm under appropriate conditions | Food is fully cooked and can be held safely |
The food is already cold | An appropriate reheating method | Do not use keep warm as a substitute for reheating |
Plan the next meal backwards from serving time
Choose a serving time and note how long a suitable programme actually takes on its first run. For the next meal, allow time for preparation and serving as well. If you are unsure how the timer works, start the programme directly at the right time. If your concern is rice texture, the guide to measuring water and adjusting rice texture helps you assess the water-to-rice ratio separately from programme selection.
If you have not chosen a rice cooker yet
The multi-purpose SRC-5500 is worth a look if you use more than one cooking programme. If you are still deciding what capacity or functions you need, see the rice cooker capacity and features guide and the Swiss Plus rice cooker range. Refer to the current product listing for availability and details.
