Play USB Videos on a TV: Check the Drive, File and Sound

Drive missing, video listed but not playing, or a picture without sound? Separate storage and media problems with a staged checklist and the 43SST-8610KI6 example.

When playing a USB video on a TV, start at the stage that stopped working: is the drive detected, is the file listed, does the video open, and do picture and sound both play? Separating those four stages gives the next test a clear purpose instead of changing settings at random or erasing the drive.

Check USB information for the exact TV code

The 43-inch 43SST-8610KI6 television lists USB alongside HDMI, LAN and Optical, as well as Android 13 and 8 GB internal storage. These entries do not establish every playback format or the maximum permitted USB-drive capacity. Internal storage is also not the maximum capacity of an external USB drive.

Prepare one small, repeatable test before connecting

Back up important drive contents. On a computer, check that the test file transferred completely and opens, then record its name, type and size. Start with one drive and a known file permitted for that TV. Changing the drive, file and player together makes the cause harder to identify.

Match the storage type, power requirements and connection conditions to the model instructions. One USB port does not permit every hard drive, hub or power-hungry accessory. Connect storage to the appropriate port and read the message. A detection notice, source selection and a formatting request are different actions.

Once the drive is detected, locate the file

Open the existing USB, media or playback section as the appliance instructions describe. Its name and position can vary with software. Select the folder containing the file and check the selected media category if the list only shows photographs or music.

If the file is missing, verify the same path and name on a computer first. Compare a second permitted file on that drive without altering the original. If the second file appears, focus on the first file characteristics. If neither appears, the browsing path and drive compatibility still need attention.

A file extension does not establish complete compatibility

Two videos with a similar extension may contain different audio and video specifications. Keep media information and the result on another device alongside the extension when asking for help. Renaming the file or its extension does not convert it into a compatible format. Preserve the original before any conversion and establish the approved destination format for that model.

The official Android media-format documentation treats codecs and container formats separately and notes that support can differ on devices other than phones and tablets. A general Android table therefore cannot guarantee every file on this TV. The model instructions and actual playback application remain the practical reference.

Picture without sound: run a clear comparison

Check mute status, volume and the active audio output. Test the TV with other content that has a known sound track, and open the problem file on a computer as well. If other TV sources produce sound and only this file fails, checking its audio-track selection and compatibility is more useful than changing every device setting.

At the end, stop playback and use the safe-removal procedure available in that interface. The official Android TV USB-storage guide also explains backing up before formatting and ejecting before unplugging; match menu locations to your appliance. Prepare the TV code, drive type, media details and the stage reached for service support.

For a wired computer connection, read the TV HDMI guide. For network issues, see the Wi-Fi guide. Explore the 43-inch television category and obtain exact instructions from the product manual section or a service centre.

Frequently asked questions

No. Drive detection, file type and audio and video compatibility are separate questions. Confirm media formats, storage limits and playback functions for the exact TV model and software.

Stop first and back up anything you need. Formatting can erase drive contents. Do not approve it simply to test a video without understanding the storage type and the procedure for the exact model.

Check mute, volume and the selected output, then test the file on another device. If other TV sources have sound, investigate the file audio track and compatibility separately rather than inferring a speaker fault from this symptom alone.
